Welcome to my lockdown sewdown quilt or to give it its proper name, Hope in the Stars. I think we could all do with a little hope at the moment, as well as something to centre the mind and find some peace. As you know I’ve been going on about the mindful benefits of hand sewing for ages, and while I’m usually talking about EPP, I have recently fallen back in love with traditional hand-piecing, so I thought I would return to this wonderfully absorbing technique for this Stars quilt.
When I first released this quilt-along back in 2020, it was a mystery quilt with instructions released for a different block every other week. Those who took part didn’t know the final layouts which added to the excitement. Since the end of the quilt-along there have been quilts shared on Newsletters and social media, so it’s no longer really a mystery. However, if you have missed these posts and would still like this to be a mystery project, I haven’t added any photos of the final layouts on this page. So if you wish you can download each of these instructions PDfs one at a time to make your own mystery quilt. Alternatively, if would you like to know what you’re making and to see the final quilts, you can download the final layout instructions, or better still, click here to see my Hope in the Stars Quilt Gallery featuring some of the beautiful quilts made by my wonderful subscribers.
Each of the following PDFs include instructions for each block as well as the templates for you to print out. However, if you do not own a printer or can't print on card, I have a set of card templates available for sale in the shop at £2.00 each - full proceeds of which go to the NHS Covid-19 Appeal. Click here to find out more.
When printing out the template pages for each block, to ensure you are printing at 100% scale, make sure that small box on each page measures 1inch exactly – also always check that ‘fit to page’ isn’t ticked in your print settings.
Click on each link below to bring up the PDF file to download onto your device - you will know more about your device that I do, but on most, once you have opened the PDF in your browser, you should be able to go up to File at the top of the screen and either Save As, or Download, choose where you would like to save it, click OK and you should then be able to go to wherever you saved it and open the file to follow on screen or to print.
