  1. Well, its been a while,  my new job has been keeping me very busy, to say the least, and the rest of the time has been spent trying my hardest to catch up with all those projects I’ve started after being inspired by customers and new fabrics constantly coming into the shop!

Needless to say, I haven’t had much time to finish many projects,  so I thought I would post some pics of previously finished projects just to give you an idea of how I satisfy my obsession with fabric

             Car quilt        Tractor quilt

These two quilts were Christmas presents for my wonderful nephews, Daniel and Nicholas. Car and tractor mad at the time, though they’re War Hammer mad now, not too sure about that! I found these great novelty fabrics at a quilt show, and designed the piecing around them.

This third quilt (below left) I made for my husband’s Aunt for her new grandson. The bear was actually  adapted  from a paper punch I’ve used for cardmaking, then appliquéd the pieces on using bondweb and machined with a blanket stitch.

Hearts & Bears quilt      Pink Hexagon quilt

I’m now working on more baby quilts, including this one (above right) I made for a customer. I'm in the middle of a couple of baby quilts, one of which I  decided to hand quilt! Ha! It may be a while before I show that one off! Meanwhile, I do take commissions, so please get in touch.

  2. Rachel1

I am so happy to have got the wedding quilt finished! It was a bit of a rush as my husband and I have recently got a new jobs in another town, Rachel2so we’re moving away. I have made so many good friends since working at the shop and will miss them dearly. As you can see, they’re a very happy bunch! This is us with the quilt, we (there are others who didn't want to brave the camera!) all made at least one block each, and then I put them together and did the quilting. It is a kingsize quilt, again using Tanya Whelan prints, with Rachel3nine-patch and hourglass blocks arranged in a round-the-world setting.

I wish Rachel and David all the luck in the world. Meanwhile, I’m off to start my new job in a lovely quilt shop in Hereford, and I’m very excited!

  3. I have finally finished my largest quilt ever, another one using Tanya Pretty Squares quilt 200x200Whelan's beautiful prints. This one is all machine pieced and quilted, and would have taken me half the time if I hadn't wondered off to start new projects! My imagination seems to be all over the place at the moment.

Lately, I've been teaching the girls who I work with how to quilt, and they've been really good, so I've suggested we make a wedding quilt for one of the girls who is getting married in July - doesn't leave us much time! I've been busy designing and planning that - I've gone for a simple Nine Patch and Hour Glass block design, so everyone can have a couple of blocks each to take home and finish, ready for me to sew together and quilt... well that's the plan anyway!

I'm also planning to make some smaller baby quilts, not only should they take me half the time, but I always think a quilt or a playmat is a lovely alternative gift for a newborn - so watch this space.

On top of that, a friend has asked me to make him a Union Jack cushion, a previous customer has asked for a lovely girlie quilt for her grandaughter's birthday, and I'm desperately trying to find the time to spend with a lovely lady I met recently, Karen, who owns a sweet local craft shop. She already runs various classes in knitting, card-making and jewellery, and has some great plans to get local people quilting, and I would love to be there to help! For more details about Karen's shop, Crafts Unlimited, and her classes, you can ring her on 01642 222608.
