Applecore Rainbow Panel Pattern & Papers - Curved English paper-piecing (EPP)

Enjoy the hand sewing technique of curved English paper-piecing to make this beautiful work of art to adorn your wall. Use glue-basting and a flat back stitch to construct your panel, appliqué onto the background and hand quilt, then you can either make it into a cushion or wall hanging, or mount it into a picture frame as I did.

Level: Intermediate

Finished size: a 20" panel which can be made into 19" square cushion or wallhanging, or mounted into a 12" x 16" or 16" square picture frame.

You will need:

• Eight 4" x 4.5" strips in a rainbow spectrum of small prints
• One 3" x 22" strip in a contrasting blender or simialr small print
• Fat quarter of background fabric
• Fat quarter of cotton wadding and of butter muslin
• Set of pre-cut EPP paper templates (16pcs, included)
• Embroidery thread
• A temporary fabric glue pen, such as Stix2 - available here
• Thread for piecing – I recommend a 50wt cotton thread such as Aurifil in a light grey. I also use an 80wt for the appliqué as it near enough disappears - click here for Aurifil Threads.
• 10” embroidery hoop if hand quilting.
• Gentle fabric starch such as Mary Ellen’s Best Press, which you can find here

• I have used a 30cm x 40cm frame (without mount) to finish my panel, but you could use a 40cm or 50cm square frame, all readily available on the market, or maybe turn it into a cushion or wall hanging, in which you will need 50cm of backing.
