Picture This Table Runner Pattern

This beautiful table runner design is ideal for showing off larger prints you just don’t want to cut up! Make up half-square triangles using a speedy and simple foundation paper-piecing technique, then add some partially seamed feature blocks to complete this gorgeous runner to adorn your table.  

These easy-to-follow instructions show you how to make both sizes, the shorter runner finishing at approx. 20” x 50”  and the longer version finishing at approx. 20” x 77”, and include one copy of the template sheet which you will need to photocopy. 

Skill level: Skilled Beginner

You will need:
• 7.5" x 10.5" strips in co-ordinating patterned fabrics - four for the short runner, seven for the longer runner - you can double up on a couple fabrics for the long one.
• Background fabric: 30cm x WOF (width of fabric) for the short runner, 60cm x WOF for the long runner
• 6½” squares in a ‘feature’ fabric - three for the short runner, five for the long
• ‘Feature Block’ borders and binding: 40cm x WOF for the short runner, 70cm x WOF for the longer runner.
• Border fabric: 40cm x WOF for the short runner, 55cm x WOF for the long
• Copies of the HST (half square triangle) template - four for the short runner, seven for the long.
• Thread for piecing and for quilting
• Wadding and backing: 23” x 53” for short or 23” x 73” for long
• Rotary cutter, ruler and mat and a sewing machine.
