Diamond Star Cushion Kit in Michael Miller's Emma's Garden - English Paper-Piecing (EPP) Cushion Kit
This patchwork kit is a great introduction to the wonderful world of hand-pieced quilting. English paper-piecing is a traditional skill that harks back to the very beginnings of the history of quilting, where quilters would sit for hours cutting out their shapes, then thread basting them onto papers before sewing them together. They would then unpick all that basting before the quilting even began! Phew!
Thankfully, these days new techniques and clever short cuts make this method a lot quicker than it used to be... not that you have to rush it of course, this is a project you can take with you wherever you go - a long car journey, to your quilt group, or even on holiday, anywhere where you can relax and enjoy this slow(ish) and therapeutic craft.
This cushion is based on 60degree diamonds which when sewn together create this beautiful star design.
Each of these kits include:
* Fabric strips in three different designs from Michael Miller's Sweet Emma collection, including two binding strips * One fat quarter of Essex Yarn Dyed Linen in graphite for the background * Paper templates for you to cut out your diamonds, though if you own a rotary cutter and ruler, I show you a quicker way to cut your papers. * one Sewline Glue Pen * one 50wt thread for piecing, * one 20" square of wadding * full, easy-to-follow instructions.
You will also need:
* one 20" square of butter muslin if you are hand-quilting * cotton thread for quilting - a 50wt for machine quilting, or a 12wt for hand quilting * cushion backing and a cushion pad.
