About Sewmotion old
Who?
Hi, I'm Louisa and I'm addicted to fabric... this obsession started in my teens when I made my first quilt, and if I remember rightly, I designed it myself even back then!
Having been lucky enough to work for Doughty's, a lovely family-run fabric shop in Hereford, I am now living in Middlesbrough in sight of the Transporter Bridge, where my husband, Justin, proposed!
Every day, you can find me in my studio designing new quilts to be developed into pre-cut kits and patterns, as well as finished handmade gifts and homewares that I sell through our Sewmotion, Folksy & Etsy shops.
Why?
I find so much satisfaction and reward through quilting,
from playing with beautiful happy colours, matching gorgeous designs and making
something truly handmade, by myself, for myself or a loved one - that I feel I must share this joy with the
world.
One of the aims behind Sewmotion is to inspire and encourage those new to
this wonderful craft to discover more. Start by making your first Beginner's Quilt, before developing these skills further with our series of free quilting tutorials and patterns.
I also like to share how amazing it is to give a gift that has been handmade with not only love, but with skills that have been developed over years of self-education and belief to be able to produce quality one-off items not seen on the high street.
What?
We have an ever-growing range of quick and easy pre-cut quilt and cushion kits
to inspire and encourage both the beginner as well as quilters looking for a quick make. Our modern fabrics come from some of today's best loved manufacterers including Riley Blake, Michael Miller, Dashwood Studios and Robert Kaufman.
We also sell a large collection of handmade gifts and homewares, made by myself inspired by my love of fabric, colour and patchwork. Items include Appliqued Purses, Children's Pencil Cases, versatile Make-up Pouches and Novelty Cushions.
